Cathedral Ruins - Built out of local sandstone in the 13th & 14th centuries, the parish church of St. Michael in Coventry was a masterpiece of medieval building. There were tall slender pillars which supported a carved oak roof, a host of beautiful stained glass windows and a carved wooden pulpit, of which only the steps now remain. On the 14th November 1940, the old cathedral was bombed, leaving just the spire, towering above the ruins. Instead of rebuilding the cathedral, it was decided that it should be left to symbolise destruction and remembrance.
